Image guided radiotherapy and chemotherapy in gynaecological cancer

The course is aimed at radiation and gynaecology oncologists, medical physicists and radiation therapists (RTTs) involved in gynaecological tumour treatments, interested in the implementation of EBRT and brachytherapy image guidance. Course participants should have specific interest in and/or initial experience with implementation of advanced MRI based brachytherapy and advanced EBRT techniques (IMRT/IGRT).

Target Volume Determination

This course is for trainees in radiation oncology and physics. It covers the application of anatomical knowledge in daily clinical practice, the optimal imaging requirements for treatment planning and delivery for a wide variety of tumours, how to determine adequate margins, and how to initiate an IGRT protocol.

The aim of this module is to provide an understanding of the biological consequences of ionising radiation exposure and its potential in cancer treatment. It leads to a more comprehensive understanding of treatment planning dose restrictions and calculations, conventional delivery protocols and purpose of alternative fractionation schedules.
